Recently I have attended the Ogilvy workshop where they covered how the Gen-Z is changing the social media space as well as the whole internet industry. I am sure you must have also seen many youngsters using such platforms to rant some things and just with the parameter of relatable-ness followers enjoy watching those things. Most of the Gen-Z are the active users of the internet and the first generation of social (social-media) natives.
What do social natives mean exactly? Well, it just means that the things we consumed from our younger age till now (specifically as a Gen Z) happened to be smartphones. The earlier generation used to use various other devices for certain things like tune in to a Radio to listen at the National News hour or any Music Show.
With the attention span of around 8s, the validation Gen-Z seek is terrible. They want instant gratification and they know that they can receive all of it with social platforms online. But, such instant-ness forms a rabbit-hole which bashes down these minds who are growing in chaos to face issues regarding mental health. But, thou’ it might happen to a certain percentage of Gen-Z they are also very inclined to get their hands on some sustainable stuff.
They seek purpose!
I am 23 which means I am a Gen-Z but among the elderly-segment. I could relate to it all and I specifically love long-form of content.
The reels where someone might just rant is what could also be the starting of the Renaissance of the new age and the passion economy will be expanding a lot.
Changes coming and major shifts happening. All for good!
As we step into the virtual world more and dabble into the grounds of music festival online the experience of music will be changing but tuning in Live-on-ground of Shillong or Goa is irreplaceable but the most welcoming Gen is the Gen-Z. They are okay to enjoy the music scene online until the pandemic fades away while the elderly people might pinpoint the cons first and won’t change the system as much as the younger gen is doing. They are adaptable to new things!
(Just to let you know I would be enjoying some Indie music at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender this December. Booked already!)
I had a strong discussion with my own self and some of my friends who have been to this fest earlier (IRL) and we thought that we can even listen to the music online and play some tracks and enjoy with the same pace. But, then Virtual Music Fest is good than no-music-fest.
And for someone like me who really wanted to attend this fest since one year (because I worked on a project which included Bacardi) I was certain that it is okay even if it is happening online. But, let us start with the parampara and turn the simple wish into reality. Boom!
The lifestyle is changing. But just to get the facts straight some things really can’t be enjoyed and perceived properly online. There needs to be that eye-to-eye contact and a feeling of compassion along with a community.
But, this(pandemic) too shall pass and we can get our toes back to the enthusiastic and energetic paradise.
Recently I read a quote which I really liked and I would like to share it with you:
“I thought 2020 would be the year I got everything I wanted, now I know 2020 is the year I appreciate everything I have”- Melody Godfred MG.
